Mother Nature’s Wake-up Call – 4:25 AM

Shake, Rattle and Roll is usually how I describe to others the feeling of California’s earthquakes.  Well, this morning at 4:25 AM we had a 3.2 magnitude centered about 2 miles from the house, it was a serious JOLT!!  Now 3.2 isn’t really a big deal unless you’re close to the center of the action.  Luckily it only lasted about 5 seconds, but it was enough to wake Steph and I up.  No damage and no major aftershocks, but the experts predict a 67% chance of another 7.1+ magnitude earthquake  in the next 30 years.  That was the size of the 1989 earthquake that did some serious damage.

So after checking on Ben (who was sound asleep), we pondered our earthquake preparedness, especially in light of all the natural disasters happening along the Gulf Coast.  This weekend we made our list and started preparing the emergency kits.

So what\’s on your list? I\’ve also been thinking about this, after the hurricanes on the Gulf Coast. Started stocking up on some bottled water. But what else? I came across this gov\’t website which has some info: http://quake.wr.usgs.gov/prepare/future/
